Wine Down

Dharma Estate Wines, harvested at California's Monte Lago Vineyards, is a family-owned vineyard run by Jacqueline and Jonathan Dharmapalan and their three children. Coming from a line of farmers, their combined passion for earth and farming grew extensively throughout the years. This obsession caused them to turn their dream of owning a vineyard into reality. After searching through Northern California's extensive wine country, they found the perfect piece of property, situated on a hilltop ridge north of the now famous Clear Lake.
The Dharmapalan line of wines is a tribute to their Indian culture. The Dharma wine bottle labels in-and Relax clude intricate Indian artwork from their personal collection and labels are printed on 100 percent imported silk. These labels have already become collectibles and are individually numbered and unique to each wine. The couple spent their careers in the telecommunications
and technology industries before turning towards the wine industry.
Jonathan Dharmapalan was an engineer with a master's degree from the California Institute of technology and Jacqueline Dharmapalan holds a business degree from Cal Poly. Currently, she is the president and CEO
of their family vineyards and winery-managing vineyards, developing the brands and overseeing the making of the wines.
The Dharmapalans have three beautiful daughters, Devika, Devarani
and Devani, who share their time between their home in Oakland, Calif., and their vineyard estate in Clearlake, Calif., and their ancestral home in Goa. Jacqueline tells indianlifeandstyle.com, "It's a nice treat for them."
It reminds her of how her and her husband grew up and they are happy that her children have the vineyard to grant them a similar experience. They are
exposed to both the urban and suburban life, as well as life in the country. The vineyard has become a beautiful oasis for the entire family, but of particular interest to the children.
