'Don' Uncovered in Black Eyed Peas Hit Single

In the Black Eyed Peas' hot single, "Don't Phunk With My Heart," American hiphop musician and founding member of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am, calls upon some unlikely help from acclaimed the Indian music director duo of Kalyanji Anandji to convince love interest Fergie that his feelings towards her are true.
Audiences who've seen the popular Hindi movie, "Don," will recognize the intro to the song as a remixed version of Kalyanji Anandji's song, "Yeh mera dil yaarka deewana." Kalyanji Anandji's song, "Ae naujawan sab
kuchh yahan," from the soundtrack to the 1978 fi lm "Apradh," further infl uences Black
Eyed Peas in the song with its rhythm and melody. The result is a unique, Grammy award-winning track with a modern twist on traditional Hindi sound.
"Don't Phunk With My Heart" also samples the famous artist, Lisa Lisa, and
her Cult Jam hit, "I Wonder If I Take You Home."
"We fused Lisa Lisa with Bollywood and Miami bass," Will.i.am said in an earlier MTV article. "So that's a whole new, different
sound."
Hindi infl uence on Black Eyed Peas is just one example of how Indian culture
is fast becoming popular in mainstream American music. Famous rapper 50 Cent also recently sampled Indian swing music in his hit, "Just a Little Bit."
As for Black Eyed Peas, will there be any more Hindi infl uences in the near future? We will just have to wait and see.
